Difference between Trademarks and Service marks
Trademarks and service marks are commonly used in the workplace. To distinguish one company’s goods from that of another, a trademark identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods.
It is a trademark (or servicemark) that identifies but also differentiates a service provider from a product provider.
It is common practise to use the term “trademark” to refer both for trademarks and service marks.
Symbols
Trademarks like MarkTM and SM that are not yet registered are denoted by the symbol TM, while those that are not yet registered are denoted by the symbol SM, as in the case above. Registered service marks, like Mark®, use the ® symbol as well.
